Most people who work from home don't have an office chair. They sit on a dining chair at the kitchen table. The good news: with a few simple fixes, an ordinary chair can become much more comfortable. 1. Sit all the way back Slide your hips to the back of the seat. This helps your back rest against the chair instead of slumping forward. 2. Add support for your lower back Roll up a small towel or use a cushion, and place it behind your lower back, at belt height. It should feel supportive, not pushing you forward. 3. Raise the seat if needed Your elbows should be at about the height of the table, or slightly above. If the table feels too high, sit on a firm cushion or a folded blanket. 4. Support your feet Your feet should rest flat on the floor. If they don't reach after raising the seat, put a box, a few thick books or a small footrest under them. 5. Soften a hard seat A thin, firm cushion makes a wooden seat more comfortable for long days. Avoid very soft pillows: you sink in and lose support. 6. Move often Even the best chair can't replace movement. Stand up, stretch and walk for a minute or two every 30 to 60 minutes. Want the full setup in 30 minutes?
